Group Decision Making
Research group decision-making methods. Start with the Delphi technique.
While performing research is thought of generally as an individual based task this is not always the case as there are many different occurrences where the group setting is best to be used, especially for larger experiments. Like with any group setting there will come a time where decisions will need to be made by the group and this is where different forms of group decision-making can come into play. One of the more popular group decision-making methods is the use of the Delphi technique to come to a consensus among the group members. What this technique consists of is all the ideas of the group being condensed into smaller groups for different approaches and delivered to the group leader and from there these smaller options are taken back to the larger group to discuss and this process is repeated until the choices have been condensed to the point where a majority decision about the best course of action can be made (Dagher, 2022).
Choose at least 2 methods to discuss and compare and contrast in your Main Post. Focus on the similarities and the differences between the various methods.
While the Delphi technique is one of the commonly used decision-making methods there are others that can be used that come with their own set of rules and procedures that help to make a more informed group decision. One other method of group decision making that can be used it with regards to the weighted scoring model. This method of decision making is similar to the Delphi method in that it attempts to break down the number of potential decisions into smaller groups, but the key difference here is that with using this method the basis of the elimination of ideas will have to do with weighing different criteria out to see which ones aligning more so with the overall goal of the what the group is looking to accomplish (Saifi, 2023). With this model the group will be aiming for a solution that is low in cost and risk, but high in an area such as value to the business or the experiment. The most common of the group decision making methods is that of brainstorming. With brainstorming this is where as a group the goal is to come up with as many ideas as possible through the use of a free flowing structure that allows all members of the team to participate and contribute. Unlike other methods of group decision making this one is more about generating a lot of ideas at once so that there are multiple options available at which point the thought process of some of the other decision making methods can come into play.
